The Gasconade County Historical Society is proud to offer its CENTURY HOME DESIGNATION. If your home is at least 100 years old, let us know and your home could receive this distinction. For $100 you will receive a metal plaque, similar to the one shown in Figure 1, bearing the Century Home seal, the name of the original owner, and the date the home was built.

As you can see, the plaque features an architectural rendering of the BAY MERCANTILE, reprinted from the Charles van Ravenswaay book THE ARTS AND ARCHITECTURE OF GERMAN SETTLEMENTS IN MISSOURI with gracious permission of the University of Missouri Press. You will also receive a one year membership in the Gasconade County Historical Society. The Society requests at least two (2) forms of documented evidence in order to verify the homes age. Examples of required documentation include: legal description, style of architecture, deed, plat book entry, photographs, letters and newspaper articles, etc.. We also require photographs of the front, rear and side elevations of your home.

The Gasconade County Historical Society Century Landmark designation is reserved for schools, churches, stores, civic buildings, bridges, cemeteries, etc.. These landmarks are of historical or architectural significance. For $100 you will receive a metal plaque, similar to that shown in Figure 2, bearing the Gasconade County Historical Society Landmark seal, the date, and appropriate information.                            Figure 2 Example of Similar Century Landmark Signage

The owner or sponsor will also receive a one year membership in the Society. Again, we will require at least two (2) forms of evidence and photographs from various angles.

The Gasconade County Historical Society does not conduct the research…that is left for the applicant to accomplish. However, we may be able to provide some assistance with completing the process. One of the goals of the Gasconade County Historical Society is to gather and publish a survey of the Gasconade County Century Homes and Landmarks. Once published, Century Home and Landmark owners/sponsors will receive a copy of this survey.
