Woollam was started when Joseph Woollam stopped on his way to the California gold fields and decided that this was the place to stay.

Gasconade County had 66 grade schools at the turn of the century. Attending country schools often meant a long, cold walk and the one warm spot around the wood stove in the center of the room.

In 1898 Rural Free Delivery was made available in Gasconade County.

In 1900 stock law went into effect and farmers had to build fences.
******
The only river ferry in mid-Missouri is located at Fredricksburg, crossing the Gasconade River.
