2026 QUILT: “LOVE KNOT”

The beautiful “Love Knot” queen-size quilt that GCHS is raffling off this year was pieced by Bernadine Oetterer and hand quilted by Anna Groner. Both of these quilters are from the Berger, Franklin County, area. Bernadine pieced her first quilt when she was 14 years old. Her mother was her teacher. Bernadine has, in turn, taught her granddaughter how to piece quilts and make quilt tops. That granddaughter has won “Best of Show” at the Washington County, Missouri, County Fair for a quilt made from blocks she made and pieced together.

Love Knot quilts feature strips of fabric that are intertwined to create endless knot designs, which are said to symbolize eternal love and connection. Piecing techniques form blocks with a central “knot”. The annual quilt raffle is an important fundraiser for the Society.
